Highly sensitive children and youth think and process deeply, have strong emotional reactions, notice subtleties, and have deep empathy–significantly more than their peers. Numbering at about one in five, these youngsters can become easily overstimulated, or overaroused, to use the psychological term.<\/p>\n

Becoming so overstimulated makes emotional self-regulation terribly challenging for these kids. However, HSC and HSY’s emotional reactivity is also a superpower. They know, before anyone else, how to “read the room” because their empathy and emotional responsiveness is emotional leadership. Highly sensitive kids who are well regulated manage their emotional responsiveness with fluidity, but the nature of these children and teens is that they will spend time every day overstimulated and dysregulated if they are participating in western youth culture, including attending school daily, exposure to screens, and inadequate physical exercise.<\/p>\n

Highly sensitive moms and parenting professionals, Alane Freund and Julie Cusmariu, will lead us in an overview of both the challenges and tools in parenting sensitive youngsters and weathering their emotional lives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
