Self-Acknowledgement

By Julie Cusmariu – February 24, 2021

Often in my coaching sessions with clients I ask them what they want to acknowledge themselves for. It’s not an obvious question and often it is first met with resistance. BUT it bares asking, and asking often.
Can you imagine what it might feel like to rest in a moment of acknowledgement for yourself for who you are, what you have created and what has come before you until this moment right here, right now? What might come in to your awareness? What might you feel about yourself? Something good, I hope. Or atleast in wondering it may placate the waters of self-criticism and dampen the volume on the external chatter and endless voices (yours and others) containing the elements of what you should have, could have and would have done.
A little recognition for yourself can go a long way. Some celebration, some awareness of progress, what exists as true to you; your gifts, talents, desires, strengths and accomplishments too. It’s certainly worth the practice. Noticing what is true about you?
Waddya think?
This past week I did a podcast (www.JulieinConversation.com) which turned out to be about self-acknowledgement. Thanks to some precious videos I stumbled upon of my boys when they were 5 and 3 years old (4 years ago). Instead of falling into the familiar feelings about time elapsed, self judgement, and comparison, I was surprisingly overcome by more positive feelings, in fact feelings that reflected how extremely aware I was at how much I have experienced, learned, received, given and who I have been for the last almost 10 years as a parent. It was profound for me because I really felt it. What might you acknowledge yourself for? Today? This month? This year? The last 10 years? This lifetime? Or even be curious about what acknowledgement for yourself might look like and feel like.
I’m here to listen and celebrate you too. Share your comments. Thoughts. Feelings.
