Using your intuition to alleviate worry

by Julie | June 6th, 2008

I developed a knack for worrying at a young age. I was good at it and I engaged in it frequently and easily. I could do it all on my own and there was little that could get in my way. Sounds almost like a passion… Well, I would say it was more like a pastime that was void of any joy. Author and lecturer, Leo Buscaglia wisely said ” Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy”. This was the truth for me when my mind was overrun with unnecessary thoughts dictating an impending future or an unsatisfactory outcome. Fortunately I realized that there was more to life than worry. I understood that in the spectrum of human emotions there were better emotions I could feel and experience. I also knew that there were better physical states of being I could experience that would fill me with peace instead of symptoms of anxiety.

As I became more and more connected to my intuition over the years, the worry in my mind became less and less present. As I began listening and most importantly trusting my intuition, I was able to reduce the worry in my life significantly. What is going on for you when you worry about something or someone? Do you notice what other emotions are present when you worry? Perhaps anxiety, guilt or fear? Do you know that when you feel fear, anxiety or worry your intuitive voice is almost impossible to hear and connect with?

I know when I worry about something, someone, or myself, I am either anticipating something in the future or I am muddling over something from the past. I am never in the present moment when I am worried. I do notice however that when I am in the present moment worry does not exist, because worry is either about the past or the future. Our intuition is very subtle and mostly speaks to us in gentle whispers. To hear it we need to create a quiet and calm inner space in our life. We need to be able to reduce the external noise and distraction to hear what is being expressed from within us.

Developing a greater trust in myself and in life by connecting with my intuition has left much less room for worry in my daily experiences. This is of course a process for me that I live and deepen each day, always practicing, always learning. Remember that connecting to your intuition takes practice, it’s like building a muscle. The more you use it the more it will provide you with strength and support in your life.

How can you develop your connection to your intuition? And how are you able to mitigate the worry in your life? How does your ability to connect with your intuition serve you and support you in the face of worry ? Please share your answers to these questions in the comments below. I look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Wishing you connection to your intuition and trust in yourself and in life!

All the best,

Julie

"The HeartBeat radio show on the internet is refreshing. Julie holds down to earth conversations with interesting intelligent people and I come away informed, inspired and encouraged. I feel like I'm sitting with friends having a chat - but the conversations are with these amazing leaders and authors! - Julie's way draws me in and I feel I'm part of the intimate setting and am actually having a chance to get to know and meet her guests ... her friends! It's a good moment to get me over my mid-week slump - exactly when I need it most."
