Loving -Kindness practice an antidote to feeling polarized by politics

By Julie Cusmariu – January 17, 2017

Timing is everything. And so it was just perfect when I received the article about Loving- Kindness meditation from mindful magazine. I was reminded of this practice that I enjoy and that is proven to increase positive emotions and offer other long term benefits. As my impulse to polarize individuals and myself based upon the politics amongst us takes over, I welcome this reminder to integrate the Loving- Kindness practice into my day. Even when walking, I am remembering to use this mindful practice of offering well wishes to myself and others. It provides some sense of equanimity and increases well-being.  Loving- Kindness. Compassion for self. Compassion for others. Acceptance.  It is a practice after all. You can read about some benefits shared by The Greater Good Science Center.

This is a practice that can be done with kids too, of course.

These two curly cherubs in the photo, my precious boys,  keep me extremely humble at the magnitude of the emotional maturity I require. I am thankful I was able to capture this moment of loving kindness and joy between these two. Of course this is not always how they relate but these moments make me remember how love and joy radiates and can fill us up. It reminds me that in our communities we can  strive to get along, connect to our similarities and let our differences be celebrated. To much loving kindness to yourself and others. Cheers to us all! PEACE.
